MT. VERNON, TX (KLTV) - An accident involving an 18-wheeler that ran down a steep embankment may take up to eight more hours to clear.

The accident happened around 9:15, Friday, on I-30 at exit 147 in the Mt. Vernon area.

The driver of the semi-truck was heading westbound when he lost control of the truck went off into the center median, tearing through the guard rail and falling down a steep embankment before coming to a stop across highway 423.

According to Franklin County authorities, there were no skid marks on I-30 where the big rig went off the roadway. The driver of the 18-wheeler claims he was trying to avoid a car that came into his lane when the accident happened, although no other vehicle was involved in the wreck.

The Sheriff also said it was a miracle that no vehicle was on Hwy 423 when the truck fell onto it because the highway is a major thoroughfare in Franklin County.

The big rig is still blocking both lanes under the I-30 overpass on Hwy 423.

There were two people in the truck, both have been transported to a local hospital and are in serious condition, but authorities say the injuries are not life-threatening.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>
