Ice Cream Cone Turns 100

The ice cream cone turned 100 today. On September 22, 1903 the cone was patented by Italo Marchiony. To celebrate the birthday, Dairy Queen locations across the country handed out free cones. While Marchiony is legally credited with the invention of the cone, it wasn't until the cone was introduced at the World's Fair in St. Louis that it become popular. A vendor ran out of dishes and had to use the waffles of a nearby vendor to sell his ice cream.
