East Texas town restores water after lightning strike

LEVERETT'S CHAPEL, TX (KLTV) – Leverett's Chapel has water again, after a lightning strike hit their water tower on Tuesday night. Unfortunately for the town, their water tower was the tallest target for lightning to hit.

When the structure was struck, the current traveled down through the entire tower. This knocked out a pump and a fuse.

The blown pump and fuse depressurized the water system, forcing school officials to cancel classes for all grades on Wednesday.

The electrical current also traveled to an oil pump on school grounds. This device shut down, but was repaired on Wednesday afternoon.

School is expected to be in session tomorrow since water has been restored to the community. There was no structural damage to the school, despite reports of high winds.
