A rare high risk for tornadoes today

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Areas of East Texas along and north of I-20 have been placed under a very rare high risk of tornadoes this afternoon. A cold front which caused yesterday's storms has stalled between I-20 and I-30 this morning. During the afternoon hours a strong area of low pressure will develop over the Hill Country and move towards the Metroplex. As this happens very strong surface winds out of the south will increase the amount of spin available for thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. This low pressure will move towards Texarkana this evening causing scattered thunderstorms to develop. Any storm that develops will likely produce very large hail, strong gusty winds, and tornadoes. Right now it appears the overall coverage of storms will be less than yesterday but this only means the storms that do form could be much stronger. Very large hail up to softball size and strong tornadoes could develop with the strongest storms. Please pay close attention to the latest developing weather situation at KLTV and KLTV.com. Make sure that your cell phone batteries/laptop batteries are fully charged in case power outages occur. Please take this seriously. A PDS has been issued now....Particularly Dangerous Situation....for all of East Texas.
