SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Smith County fire crews have contained a grass fire for the second time in a week in the same location.
It happened just before 6PM Friday on County Road 3104 near Winona.
Fire crews tell us that the fire actually jumped the road, and threatened a small horse barn before it could be contained. It looks to be a re-spark of the same fire crews were fighting just a few days ago.
"We had a call out here last Sunday," said Winona Volunteer Fire Department Chief Nelson Brumley. "We came out for about 2-3 hours and fought in the woods. We had a plow go around it, and we had more calls come out again today, it rekindled, followed it around again, but we're not sure why it keeps jumping the fire lane."
Brumley says the plow was used again Friday night around the fire, but with the dry conditions, it's difficult to keep other fires from sparking.
