A Benefit Concert For Aaron Laney

Terry Downs and his band "Peculiar People" are based in Rusk. Lindy Coughlin and her band "Forgiven" are out of Lindale. Both bands had never performed together before, but this weekend they're joining forces to help a fellow Christian family hit by tragedy.

"I had seen the news and when I watched it really broke my heart," Terry says.

"It crushed me," explains Lindy.

News Deanna Laney had allegedly killed her two sons, and severely beaten another, hit both Terry and Lindy very hard.

Neither really new the family, but they wanted to reach out and help them.

"We are all a family of Jesus Christ. We are all sisters and brothers in that kingdom," explains Terry. "I think as a responsible Christian we should reach out for others when they are in need."

They decided to reach out with music by putting on a benefit concert for Aaron Laney. All donations will go toward Aaron's medical bills.

"There is just a need, an enormous need, for the family to be helped in anyway they can," says Lindy. "From what I understood the first bill they got was well over $200,000.

Both groups hope this concert will be a blessing to the family as well as bless the community still hurting over what happened last May.

The Aaron Laney benefit concert will be this Saturday (Sept. 20) at First Assembly of God in Tyler. It's located downtown at 200 North Beckham. It starts at 7 and is free to the public -- though donations will be taken. The bands "Peculiar People", "Forgiven", and "The Northams" from Houston will be performing.
