Man embarks on cross-country walk to support Special Ops

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - He served his country in Iraq, but one veteran's latest mission is taking him throughout East Texas.

Matt Parrish is making a cross-country trek to raise awareness for Special Forces, who face extreme dangers, and for their families, who have to worry for them.

For three months, 31-year-old Matt Parrish has been walking, starting from Tampa, FL, for a cause he wants people to support.

He walks for Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which provides funds to those in the most elite fighting forces, who themselves need help.

Rangers, Navy Seals, Green Beret, and Special Ops all suffer high mortality rates, and that's what Parrish wants to raise awareness of.

He walks 15 to 20 miles a day---a small price, according to him.

Funds raised will also go towards scholarships for Special Ops members. Parrish will walk to Los Angeles, CA, then turn around and walk back to Florida.
