Champion Barrel Racer Memorial In Gladewater

It was a time to say a final sad farewell and recall fond memories as an East Texas rodeo legend was laid to rest Wednesday in Gladewater. Several hundred people turned out for a special memorial service at the Gladewater rodeo arena for one of their local heroes..  56 year old eight time world champion barrel racer Deb Mohon.

Mohon died as a result of injuries suffered in a horse training accident on Sunday. Tuesday, her love of the rodeo was acknowledged in a special tradition called the "empty saddle"; featuring her favorite horse, Brown.

For many, it was simply an opportunity to remember their friend. The memorial was attended by numerous longtime friends and competitors in the rodeo circuit. Mohon was laid to rest at Wood cemetery in Gladewater.
