Today, members of the so-called "Texas 10" returned to the senate floor for a third special session on redistricting. The Democratic members of the Texas Senate were in New Mexico for most of the summer in protest to the Republican-led effort to reshape congressional districts. Houston senator, John Whitmire was the first to return to the senate floor, creating a quorom for the legislative body. The Repbulicans said they would welcome back their colleagues as long as they were willing to get down to business. However, the defecting Democrats face 57-thousand dollars in fines imposed by their Republican colleagues. They were also stripped of their perks such as prime parking spots.
