Group to find permanent site to fly Confederate Flag

ANDERSON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - There are new plans to fly the Confederate Flag over an East Texas town.

First Commissioner's in Anderson County gave the Sons of Confederate Veterans permission to fly the flag.

But, last week, The City of Palestine asked that the flag be removed from in front of the county courthouse.

Since the Confederate Flag can no longer fly over the Anderson County Courthouse law, the Sons of Confederate Veterans are planning to buy their own land to fly the flag.

The group is still searching for the right property, but in a meeting last week, they raised about $1000 to go toward that purchase.

The Commander of the group says their goal is to honor the veterans who fought under the Confederate Flag.

Last week, dozens of protesters waived Confederate Flags and wore t-shirts that read, "Heritage, Not Hate."

Despite the new plans to fly the flag on private property, some people are still very concerned.

One resident says he hopes that the group thinks about the repercussions that may come along with flying the flag, because most people don't understand what the true meaning is behind the flag.
