By Bob Hallmark bhallmark@kltv.com

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - In Longview, the Lotus Inn at 1405 West Loop 281 had violations like open drinks on prep tables, a dirty apron on top of cut cabbage, no hot water in a sink, and eating utensils were not sanitized. In all, they had 17 demerits.

El Peunte D. Mendez at 309 East Valentine in Tyler had it's share of problems when the inspector came. Pork, chicken, salsa, beef, and rice were all found out of temperature. Inspectors also found raw beef stored over salsa in the cooler. There were also no towels at the kitchen prep sink, and pans were found with dried up debris. They had 29 demerits overall.

Inspectors found 38 demerits at El Zarape at 319 North Beckham in Tyler. Inspectors noted that rice pudding had to be thrown out, beef and potatoes, and chorizo were all out of temperature, and the handsink was not working. Inspectors also say an employee was seen handling tortillas with his bare hands, there were no towels in the womens restroom, and silver and cutting boards were not clean.
