Middle School Students Celebrate Freedom on September 11

At Tyler's Dogan Middle School Thursday, their 9-11 event was a time to remember tragedy, and celebrate freedom.

A minute of silence was followed by a celebration of America and the future. Band members from John Tyler High made the trip over to entertain and show the younger kids what they can do in a few years, if they work hard and believe in themselves.

"We're going to always remember this, and these children are going be our leaders, and they should know why this day is important to us," said John Tyler Senior Class President Juan Valdez.

The students have been learning about 9-11 this week. Dogan's principal tells us some of the current students immigrated from Mexico in the past two years. For them, they're learning, for the first time, what happened that day.
