Foul play not ruled out after body found in ETX lake

HAWKINS (KLTV) – Police are investigating after a man's body was found on the north shore of Lake Hawkins.

Investigators with the Wood County Sheriff's Office and the Game Warden were called to the scene near CR 3440 and CR 3476 around nine Saturday morning.

"We got a report that there was a vehicle abandoned in the middle of the road on county road 3440. We began to approach the vehicle when we received another call stating that someone had discovered a body floating in the water," said Lt. Jerry Blalock.

The body was found floating near a pier which has raised more questions.

"We do not know if its accidental drowning somebody just fell into the water or foul play or not we don't know, said Blalock.

Investigators say the circumstances do not  meet the usual scenarios of an accident or suicide.

"The only thing we're concerned about right now is we found the vehicle in the middle of the roadway, which is obviously not appropriate for a vehicle just to be parked in the middle of the roadway and then somebody be in the water a few yards away, said Blalock.

A closer look reveals that the truck's driver side window was broken. Deputies have searched the truck.

At this point, nothing is being ruled out, "Ee will treat this as if there were foul play until we can prove otherwise, said Blalock.

The man's name has not been released. The body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy.
