DPS searching for dangerous child sex offender

TEXAS - Authorities continue to search for a violent registered sex offender who victimized young children, and DPS is asking for the public's help in apprehending him.

Guillermo Chavez, 41, was last seen in El Paso and has been designated as one of the 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders in the state of Texas. He is considered at high risk to re offend and a threat to his community. Texas Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 cash reward for his capture and all tips are anonymous.

He was convicted in 2001 on three counts of aggravated sexual assault and two counts of indecency with a child for crimes against two young children, ages 5 and 8.  He has been wanted since 2002, when the photo above was taken.

Chavez, who is considered armed and dangerous, is currently wanted for probation violation and failure to register as a sex offender. 

Chavez was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and moved to the U.S. when he was 14 years old.  He attended Burges High School in El Paso before dropping out of school after the 1010th grade. He also has gone by the name of Guillermo Chavez-Gonzalez.

Anyone with information on these offenders can provide anonymous tips in three different ways:

  • Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
  • Text the letters DPS—followed by your tip—to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.
  • Submit a tip through the DPS web site by selecting the sex offender you have information about, and under their picture is a link to submit a web tip.
