How healthy is your E. Texas County?

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - How healthy is your East Texas County? A new set of reports released on Wednesday ranks the health of nearly every county in Texas.

The County Health Rankings reveal how much of what affects health occurs outside of the doctor's office. Some of the biggest contributors to being healthy and living a long life are: income, jobs, education and environment.

The Rankings, based on the latest data available for each county, measures the overall health of each county on the multiple factors that influence health. For instance, unhealthy counties have significantly lower high school graduation rates, have more than twice as many children in poverty, and much higher rates of unemployment.

President and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, MD, MBA says, "It's hard to lead a healthy life if you don't live in a healthy community. The County Health Rankings are an annual check-up for communities to know how healthy they are and where they can improve."
