Bone marrow drive in Tyler this weekend

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - It's easy as signing a consent form, and getting a cheek swab this weekend to be eligible to donate bone marrow and possibly saving someone's life.

The event is for anyone in need of a transplant, but there is a special hope in a match for an East Texan by man who has leukemia, and is in need for a bone marrow transplant.

Juan Gonzales was diagnosed with leukemia last October. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Gonzalez's close friends were inspired by his story, and decided to get involved in the "Be the Match" program to have a marrow drive in his honor.

Dee Miles says, "I guess I was aware there was a need out there, but until I had this personal connection with Justo, did I realize, how these people need our help. So, I'm very excited to have the drive and I hope we have a great turnout."

The event will take place at the Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Tyler, this Friday, April 1st from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M., Saturday from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M., and Sunday 9 A.M. to Noon.

Everyone from the ages of 18 to 60 can become part of the registry with the non-organization "Be the Match."
