UPDATE: Suspect believed to have shot deputy identified

UPDATE: According to the apartment manager at the Arbors complex, Christopher Summerville was the suspect that shot Smith County deputy, Josh Caulkins.

TYLER, TX - On March 24, 2011 around 12:00 a.m. Officers of the Tyler Police Department responded to The Arbors Apartments located at 323 Chimney Rock in Tyler, Texas in reference to shots fired at members of the U.S. Marshal joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force who were attempting to serve a warrant in Apartment number 311.

This Task Force consisted of members from the U. S. Marshal's Service and Smith County Sheriff's Department.  They had received information that wanted person, Christopher Summerville, was in the apartment.  The outstanding warrant on Christopher Summerville was for a Parole Violation.  Task Force members were talking to a female occupant of the apartment when a shot was fired at the front door from inside the apartment. A shot struck Smith County Deputy Sheriff Josh Caulkins in the upper chest.  A second round was fired from a suspect inside the apartment which struck the opposing apartment door.  Members of the Task Force returned gunfire and were able to take into custody three (3) uninjured suspects.

Deputy Caulkins was transported to East Texas Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

 The three (3) occupants of the apartment have been identified as: 

Christopher Summerville, W/M, DOB 07-08-1984 of Tyler 

Jeffery Andrysiak, W/M, DOB 09-10-1979 of Tyler. 

Kara Adams-Hanley, W/F, DOB 07-03-1981 of Tyler.

At this time Christopher Summerville is being held on the outstanding warrant, Jeffery Andrysiak is being held on possession of a controlled substance and Kara Adams was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

This case remains under investigation.  All media inquiries for now will be addressed by the Smith County Sheriff's Department.

    On Monday the Associated Press released its top 25 preseason poll for college football. And for the third straight year, Texas A&M didn't make the cut. Starting fast though and moving their way up the polls in recent seasons hasn't been the problem. In fact, the Aggies, who have over a dozen East Texans on the roster, were number four in the initial playoff rankings last year.
