Suspects in custody, alleged shooter hospitalized in apartment shooting

UPDATE: Chris Summerville is hospitalized at ETMC for an overdose of methamphetamine. According to Tyler Police, Summerville injected the methamphetamine into his body just prior to the incident.

UPDATE: Arrest warrants have been issued for Kara Hanley and Jeffery Andrysiak. Both have been charged with Manufacture or Delivery of Controlled Substance which is a first degree felony.

Both Hanley and Andrysiak are in custody at the Smith County Jail.

Bond has been set at $500,000 each.

Summerville remains hospitalized at East Texas Medical Center.

UPDATE: Authorities have confirmed that deputy Josh Caulkins was the Smith County deputy shot at the Arbors Apartments early Thursday morning.

TYLER, TX (KLTV)- A Smith County Sheriff's Deputy was shot overnight while trying to serve an arrest warrant.

It happened just before 11:00 pm, at the Arbors Apartments in south Tyler off Chimney Rock Drive.

Tyler police say Federal Marshals and Smith County authorities were teaming up to serve a felony arrest warrant.

Upon entering the suspect's apartment, the suspect opened fire with a 22 pistol, hitting deputy Josh Caulkins, in the chest.

Tyler police tell us a bulletproof vest kept the sheriff's deputy from serious injury.

Deputy Caulkins was treated and released from a Tyler hospital.

The shooter was arrested and two others inside the apartment were detained. 

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - UPDATE: 12:06 AM, Tyler Police now confirm to KLTV 7 News that a Smith County Deputy was shot late Wednesday night at the Arbors on Chimney Rock Apartments on 323 Chimney Rock in South Tyler. 

The deputy was wearing a bullet-proof vest.  He is not injured but has been taken to the hospital to be checked out.  The protective vest stopped the bullet.  One person was arrested.  Two others are being detained. 

The deputy was serving a felony warrant along with U.S. Marshals as part of a task force.  No one else was injured.  Tyler Police are handling the investigation from here.  A press release is expected in the morning.

12:01 AM, Thursday- A law enforcement source tells KLTV 7 News that a deputy has been shot at a South Tyler apartment complex.   There is a large group of law enforcement at the Arbors on Chimney Rock Apartments on Chimney Rock in south Tyler.  KLTV is on the scene of this breaking story.  Keep checking back here for more information.
