TYLER, TX (KLTV) - For 25 years, Rich Brands has been at the helm of the Robert E. Lee boys soccer team.
He has just about seen it all.
"It is not like you do the same things year in and year out," said Brands, "You get new kids, you try new things, you have different personalities every year, and that is what keeps it interesting. We are already talking about what we are going to do next year, even though I won't be here."
After more than two decades on the sidelines, Brands has decided to retire.
But not before he made some history.
With a 2-0 win over DeSoto Friday night, Brands won his 400th career match.
A career that included a two-year stint, to begin his carerr, in Longview.
"I have a lot of fond memories, I have just been so fortunate," said Brands, after the milestone victory, "I have been so blessed to have been around so many good players and we have had some wonderful and some great moments in the last 25 years."
Brands and the Lee team, still have a chance to make the playoffs in 2011.
If he makes it again this year, it will mark the 15th consecutive year he has guided a squad to the post-season.
And it just so happens, they must beat Longview to do so.
