Escalating bond payments in Gregg County have officials there looking to sell beds in the county jail to another state to raise revenue. Authorities are hoping a special debt fund connected with the jail will grow to help meet annual bond payments that will triple in three years. Without having to raise the counties tax rate.
State cuts would mean annual debt payments will jump from over $400,000 to over $1 million by 2005. Selling several hundred beds to the state of Arizona for their inmates transferred here would raise another $600,000 to $1.1 million dollars.
