Scouts send cookies to troops

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- A little bit of home is being sent to our troops overseas, courtesy of an East Texas collaboration. Girl Scouts at Saint Michael's All Saints Church in Longview, joined Operation Appreciation members to package and send girl scout cookies to troops over seas. More than 300 boxes of the goodies were packaged and shipped, which include a personal note from the girl scouts. The girls got customers to buy the cookies for the troops.

"The girl scouts helped sell the cookies," said Operation Appreciation member Margie Litterski. "They were instructed to ask their customers if they would like to buy a box of cookies for a soldier or for home. Nine times out of ten, they stopped to buy that cookie for a soldier, so East Texans ought to give themselves a pat on the back, because everyone of these boxes of cookies has been donated by an East Texan."

The packages will be mailed out on Tuesday, and should reach troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan in a week.
