Head coaching couple

ATHENS, TX (KLTV) -   Michael and Kenya Landers' first date was as romantic as it gets.

"We finally went on a date at the Final Four," said Michael Landers.  "From there it kind of took off."

A date at the Final Four, led to a winning marriage.

"I was the only person that could keep him in line," said Kenya Landers with a smile.

The Landers were married in 2008.  They hadn't coached together since 2005.  Then a door opened at Trinity Valley in Athens.

"I've always said that if I was going to be a head coach I'd want it to be with him," said Kenya Landers.

This was a little different.  Michael and Kenya Landers have worked the season as co head coaches for the Lady Cardinals.

"I was thinking in my head, who do I listen to first?" said Trinity Valley sophomore Brittney Dukes.

For the players, it's like listening to another mom and dad.

"We feel like their children sometimes," said Dukes.

"When they get mad we pull toward coach Kenya," said Trinity Valley sophomore Jasmine Scott.  "She's more lenient."

Despite any tough love, two heads appear better than one.

"I enjoy both of them," said Dukes.  "They push us the same amount. They're very smart. It helps us because each of us is so far from home. We really get the family feeling with them."

The love birds have led Trinity Valley back to the national tournament.

"I'm getting goose bumps talking about it," said Michael Landers.  "To win one (national championship) coaching beside her would be the pinnacle of my career.
