Teen tased at school

SPRINGFIELD, GA (WTOC) - A 15-year-old Effingham County High School student in custody after investigators say she became extremely violent Tuesday afternoon. Officers couldn't get her under control so they were forced to tase her.

Police say the 15-year-old girl was arguing with another student in cafeteria. A school official broke the argument up and then two resource officers escorted the teen to the principal's office. While heading to the principal's office, the 15-year-old girl allegedly began cursing and then hit one of the school's administrators.

Police say the resource officers tried placing the teen under arrest and that's when she began kicking and hitting them as well. To get her under control, the resource officers drive stunned the student several times with a handheld taser as their last resort.

"The deputies are at these schools to ensure the safety of the students and faculty. They did what they needed to do and unfortunately it came down to this, said Detective David Ehsanipoor with the Effingham County Sheriff's Office.

"It's unfortunate that it happened and I hate that it escalated to that point, but on the other hand we have to have discipline in our schools and we can't allow students to behave that way and so we have to take appropriate actions when something like this occurs," said Randy Shearouse, Superintendent of the Effingham County Board of Education.

The 15-year-old faces two counts of felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, two counts of simple assault on an employee of a public school, two counts of simple battery against a law enforcement officer, two counts of disorderly conduct, and one count of disrupting a public school. She's now being held at the claxton youth detention facility.

No one seriously hurt in the incident.
