WebXtra: First look inside FRESH

TYLER, TX (KLTV) – The clock is ticking for a big Brookshire's unveiling. On Thursday, the doors to the new FRESH store will open.

Construction started just over a year ago on the store, and things were just as busy on Wednesday, as ever.

"FRESH folks" are scrambling to make sure everything is in its place for their 6 am FRESH start, Thursday morning. That's when all of East Texas can officially come and soak in the FRESH experience.

FRESH is no small job. It's been a busy day for General Manager Steve Delello, "It's kind of like inviting someone to your house, you want it to be right when they come in."

The FRESH store is a big house to warm—with a big family—more than 350 jobs created to keep the place running.

Delello says the concept was simple, "They wanted to offer something that had a big emphasis on fresh foods, so the name FRESH was just simple."

Delello says FRESH is "an all inclusive food destination."

"We have items for those that have time to cook, and we want to help them feel comfortable with the ingredients that they buy," Delello explained.

But the "Chef Prepared" case will have your dinner already waiting if you're strapped for time.

Flowers come in from South America; Cheeses come in from Italy.

Combining specialty foods with the traditional grocery store finds.

There's even a concierge desk.

If you get overwhelmed, look for the "Freshologists," they'll be in the green shoes.

At FRESH, employees don't point, "We use an open hand… it's just more polite," Delello explained.

For a FRESH shopping experience, there's also a grill and gelato bar inside.

Another interesting fact, the front of the store, on the Old Jacksonville side, is actually the back of the store. Reportedly, that's because the patio of the store is more "homey," and they wanted that side to face the neighborhood across the street.

FRESH is scheduled to open its doors at 6 am on Thursday.

The official grand opening, complete with ribbon cutting ceremony, is set for 9 am.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>
