LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) – The jury deadlocked in the case of an East Texas man, accused of killing a man and setting his house on fire.

In Gregg County, the capital murder trial of Toronto Lockridge ended in a mistrial.

"We have used all the evidence, testimony, explanations, etc. provided by the defense and the D-A, we the 11 are not going to be able to change the one," said one juror.

One juror's opinion just could not be swayed by the rest of the 11.

Pretty soon, the defense moved for a mistrial, and the judge had no choice but to grant it.

"In these types of cases, especially in the gravity of a case like this, we always like for the jury to reach a decision. Sometimes, that can't happen," said Judge Alfonso Charles.

There was sobbing in the courtroom gallery as the judge spoke, then applause.

The celebrations were escorted out of the courtroom.

Mary Candie spoke to KLTV just hours after her nephew, Kelvin Wayne Muckleroy's body was found shot, inside a burning home.

Authorities later arrested Lockridge and another man for the crime.

"This is devastating my family. This is so devastating because we never expected anything like to even happen," said the victim's Aunt, Mary Candie, "When you lose a child, you don't never know how a person feels until you lose one."

Lockridge "shot the deuce" as he was escorted out of court. The victim's family consoled one another outside the courtroom.

"We're just disappointed for the family. Obviously looking for resolution in the case," said Gregg County Prosecutor Chris Parker.

Parker says the State plans to retry the case.

Lockridge will remain in Gregg County custody until then.
