CANTON, TX (KLTV) -   Move over boys, there's girl power in canton.

"I have a couple of guys intimidated," said Canton powerlifter Teddie Owen.

From cheerleaders, To the strongest homecoming queen in Texas.

"I'm going to go ahead and say that I might be," said 97 pound Macy Matthews.  "People think little girls can't do much, but they can."

The Canton homecoming queen tied the regional record, squatting 260 pounds in her weight class.

"I really wanted to prove everybody wrong that small girls can be strong too," said Matthews.

Matthews is one of 12 Lady Eagle powerlifters headed to state.

"It's just because in our minds we set such a high standard," said Canton powerlifter Kelsey Neystel.

"People know who we are at other schools too," said Matthews. "They're like 'oh there's Canton, watch out.'"

The defending state champions are getting stronger in numbers.

"After winning state we got a lot more respect," said Matthews.  "People were like 'oh, these girls are strong.'"

"It's such a great feeling when you have a personal best," said Owens.
