'God won't give you more than you can handle'

OVERTON, TX (KLTV) – An East Texas family is left with nothing after a fire destroyed their home.

The fire started just after noon on Wednesday in the 200 block of South Helen Street in Overton.

The family says losing everything makes them appreciate everything more.

"I feel like everything happens for a reason, and you know maybe this was just a wake-up call to be more grateful for what we have," says Tracy Weber.

Tracy says losing her home and everything inside of it, is not the end of the world, "We're all alive, that's what I keep saying, I mean, we can just start over. It's not like we can't—we'll have to."

Tracy says that on Wednesday, she and her son were on their way back home from Henderson, when they hit a road block, "I saw Police were up and down the road, and I had my son with me, and he was like ‘someone's house is on fire. I hope it's not ours,' so I pulled over at the Laundromat over there, and I looked and thought, ‘oh my goodness, it is ours.'"

Firefighters took nearly three hours to put out the fire and stayed at the house into the night to put out hot spots.

The Overton Volunteer Fire Chief says nearly 80% of the house is damaged, and none of the family's belongings are salvageable.

But the Weber family says that's okay. Daughter Samantha says, "It's just material things, so I'm not really worried about anything in the house that's mine, because all of my stuff can be replaced."

"I believe everything happens for a reason, and this can only make us stronger. God won't give you more than you can handle," expressed Tracy.

Overton officials say the fire organized in a back room closet, but have not been able to determine how it started.
