TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A Tyler police officer was injured during a routine traffic stop shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday.

Motorcycle Officer William (Bill) Steinmiller pulled over a man for a traffic violation at the intersection of College and Front.

Police on the scene say the suspect, Michael Renard Webb, 36, of Tyler, had marijuana and prescription drugs in the car. He was also wanted on three outstanding warrants for manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance.

While Officer Steinmiller was waiting on his backup to arrive, Webb got out of his car and attacked him. A Smith County District Attorney's Office Investigator, Fabio Martinez, was driving by, saw what was happening and helped take the suspect into custody.

Michael Webb was arrested and taken to the Smith County jail.  Webb had no apparent injuries; Officer Steinmiller and Investigator Martinez were treated at ETMC and later released.
