Crash near Gilmer sends 5 to hospital

GILMER, TX (KLTV) - A serious accident sends five people to the hospital Tuesday morning.

Three children and two adults were taken to area hospitals after a car ran into an 18-wheeler.

The wreck happened at the intersection of FM 726 and FM 1650, just east of Gilmer.

Authorities tell us, the woman driving the car hit the 18-wheeler pretty much head on.

The big rig jackknifed, after the car hit the 18-wheeler's front tire. The woman had three children with her, who she was babysitting. The kids were taken to a hospital in Longview, but emergency crews had to cut the woman out of the car.

Before crews arrived, witnesses on the scene of the crash noticed the car the woman was pinned in was smoldering. They quickly grabbed fire extinguishers from their vehicles and put the fire out, saving the woman's life.

We are told the woman and the driver of the 18-wheeler were transported to the hospital by helicopter. The woman is in surgery with internal bleeding and a broken pelvis. The driver of the 18-wheeler was flown to the hospital as a precaution and has been released.

The babysitter driving the Camry has been identified as Analisse Macias. The driver of the truck, Alvi Holley.
