Family of Naples girl, 4, killed by school bus, hires attorney

Released by Tefteller, Newsom & Tefteller, PLLC:

The Gilmer, Texas based law firm of Tefteller, Newsom & Tefteller, PLLC, has been hired by the family of Patience Grace Alderman, 4, who was killed by her school bus Wednesday, January 5, 2011, after she had exited the bus coming home from her pre-kindergarten classes at Pewitt Consolidated I.S.D.

Patience was a passenger on a Pewitt Consolidated I.S.D school bus on the day she was killed.  The incident began when the bus driver allowed Patience to exit the bus at the wrong stop.  As the girl ran towards the bus in an attempt to reboard, she apparently fell under the bus.  Not knowing where Patience was, the driver then proceeded to accelerate forward, running over and killing the 4 year-old child.

Given the trust placed in the school district and this driver by its students' parents, it is completely inexcusable that Patience was run over and killed by her own school bus because of the driver's failure to maintain a constant awareness of the children outside and around her bus.

"Patience was a beautiful, vibrant 4 year-old who suffered a horrific death," said Joe Newsom.  "Her mother and family have been devastated by her death and are frustrated that she was killed by a situation that was easily preventable."
