Blood Shortage in Longview

A critical shortage of blood in Longview, is being blamed on the power outages in the northeast last week. The power blackout caused a two-fold problem as blood centers on the east coast were forced to dispose of their blood because it ruined in the extreme heat.

Many blood products were sent from East Texas. To aid in the effort to collect blood donations, Good Shepherd Medical Center is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive Friday, August 22.

Donations can be made at the red cross bus outside Good Shepherd's emergency entrance from 10 a.m. To 3 p.m.
