JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) -   The Jacksonville girls basketball team has made school history, advancing to the regional tournament for the first time ever.  There are a ton of banners hanging around the gym, but they all stop after the second round.

Now the ladies are 64 minutes from Austin.  To get there, they'll have to get through Dallas Lincoln on Friday and win another game Saturday.

The ladies say they are playing for every former basketball player that never made it this far.

"We want to do it for them to," said Jacksonville Junior Amber Hawkins.

Sophomore Sametria Baker says it will be nice to see their own banner hanging in the future.

"I would be very proud to say I was a part of that class, the first," said Baker.  "The teammates that I have and the first coach to do it here in Jacksonville."

In his first year at Jacksonville, Coach Allan Pope has already made school history.

"It's something that means a lot to everybody," said Pope.  "The community has rallied behind us, our boys are still winning. We're going to get to put a great show on in Garland. We play at six, they play at eight. Basketball is hot right now in Jacksonville and everyone's trying to enjoy it."

Jackson is back for Lufkin.Jackson is back for Lufkin.

Like Longview, Lufkin is always talented. Before the Panthers begin District 12-6A action, they'll play a loaded East Texas schedule featuring the Lobos in week 1, followed by Nacogdoches and John Tyler. Normally a 7 and 4 campaign would be considered a success, but not in Panther nation. In fact, despite making the playoffs every year, Lufkin hasn't advanced past the first round since 2012.

Our Red Zone Rundown continues with the other two Class 6A programs in East Texas. In District 11-6A with John Tyler and Tyler Lee, who we featured Monday night, Longview figures to challenge for the league title in 2017. In fact, the Lobos and Lions shared the district championship a year ago. It's no secret, Longview is used to winning and it does so by running the football and playing sound defense.
