LONGVEIW,TX (KLTV)- What started as a police chase yesterday afternoon, ends with a suspect evading a manhunt. Troopers chased the suspect from Fisher road near highway 80 until the driver bailed on Dollahite road off of Gregg-Tex road. State troopers , Longview police, Texas rangers and even a Swat team converged on the rural road trying to cut off escape routes. 58 year old Tommy Scott Thomas had run from troopers, ditching his truck and running into the woods. All because he had a theft warrant from Rains county.

"So much law enforcement I thought they moved the department out here, 70 cars were here," said area neighbor Sonny Montana.

Swat members were called in, thinking that Thomas may have broken into a woman's home.

"I was wondering what was going on I stopped and had a big manhunt going on, scared her to death , guy was here running she didn't know what to do," Montana says.

Dogs were brought in to pick up the scent, and a perimeter was set up to hem Thomas in. A small army of investigators combed the woods and searched local houses, but Thomas had mysteriously vanished.

"In this day and time you never know who to trust , you can't leave your doors open like you used to," says Montana.

How Thomas escaped the gauntlet of law enforcement is still undetermined.

Tommy Scott Thomas is 58 years old with shoulder length brown hair. He has distinctive tattoo's on his shoulders and arms. He may be clean shaven to change his appearance. Any one who sees him is asked to call police.
