80-year-old woman alive after being hit by bullet

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - A Bessemer woman is lucky to be alive after a fight between her sons left her with a gunshot to the head, said the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, an 80-year-old woman, was in her home when her sons, Michael and Joseph Hooper began arguing. Both sons pulled out handguns, and she was struck in the back of the head with a single bullet as she tried to flee the home.

Family members drove the woman to the hospital, however her wound is not considered life threatening.

Joseph Hooper turned himself in to the Bessemer Sheriff's Office, and his brother, Michael, was found in the 300 block of Hillside Drive. Both men have been charged with Assault 1 and are being held on $30,000 bond.
