TYLER, TX (KLTV) - An award-winning member of the United States Air Force made his way back home to East Texas Tuesday night.

Master Sergeant Grant Thomasson of Tyler arrived at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport Tuesday night. During twenty years in the service, he has spent time in England, Saudi Arabia, and his most recent stint in Korea.

Master Sergeant Thomasson was named Air Force First Sergeant of the Year in 2009, but even with all his years of service, he had never heard of 'Welcome Home Soldiers'.

"This is phenomenal. I did not know they did this. So, this is just a wonderful way to welcome home guys that have been away from their family for this long. It's really nice," said Sergeant Thomasson.

Master Sergeant Thomasson will be home for about three weeks before heading to Barksdale Air Force Base for his next assignment.
