Lindale students rally to help their teacher

LINDALE, TX (KLTV) - Carri Hardy is getting help, and she needs it. She suffers from TTP which causes blood clots to form in her small blood vessels. Because of this, she needs daily blood transfusions.

She teaches American history at Lindale Junior High School, and now much of the district is donating blood.

A drive was held at the LISD high school gymnasium where dozens of students and teachers waited their turn to give.

But, someone else is helping in a different way. Debbie Turner, who works with Carri, is getting pledges for a 13 mile marathon in Texarkana on February 20th. She says she appreciates all the help Carri has given her.

"She's a wonderful teacher. A friend who got me interested in an alternative teacher certification program that I'm pursuing, that her husband Steve accomplished. So, kind of a thanks to them I'm on my route to becoming a teacher, and I just want to do a little bit back to try to help her,"  Debbie explained.

So far, Debbie will raise 750 dollars to help with Carri's medical expenses. She's hoping to raise $1000.
