Two Gilmer residents dead after motorcycle wreck

WOOD COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A weekend motorcycle accident claims the life of two Gilmer residents.

Just after 4:00 Sunday afternoon, Wood County Sheriff's Department and Tyler DPS responded to a one vehicle motorcycle accident on FM 1795 northeast of Hawkins.

According to DPS, the motorcycle was traveling at 60 mph when the driver of the Suzuki GSXR 1000 lost control and skid sideways and rolled, ejecting both the driver and the passenger.

The driver, Carl Franklin Walthall, 39, of Gilmer was transported by helicopter to ETMC Tyler where he later died.

The passenger, Misty Fuller Lay, 34, also of Gilmer, was pronounced dead at ETMC Gilmer, by Justice of the Peace Lyle Potter.

Niether the driver nor the passenger was wearing a helmet.
