Upshur Co. officials plead not guilty to oppression charges

Posted: Updated:

UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) – The three Upshur County officials charged with official oppression for banning public comments at the Commissioner's Court meetings, have waived their rights to an arraignment and have pled not guilty to the charges.

Upshur County Sheriff Anthony Betterton, County Judge Dean Fowler, and Commissioner Lloyd Crabtree were to appear in court on Friday, but instead waived the hearing.

All three are under indictment for allegedly conspiring to kick a man out of the Commissioner's Court in November for protesting the Court's ban on public comments.
