LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - An instructor at Jefferson Community and Technical College is accused of using the internet to entice a minor to have sex.

According to a press release from Kentucky State Police, detectives arrested 43-year-old Chad Fightmaster from Louisville on an indictment warrant issued out of Bourbon County around 11:15 a.m. on Feb. 9.

Fightmaster, who teaches aviation technology for JCTC. The program is housed in a wing at The Academy at Shawnee in Louisville. He was in a class at the Shawnee campus Thursday when he was taken into custody.

JCPS spokesperson Lauren Roberts says students at the high school seeking college credits can attend those aviation programs, and Fightmaster would have taught both college and high school students enrolled in the program.

Fightmaster is charged with a single count of unlawful use of an electronic means originating or received within the Commonwealth to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities. Police say none of the alleged crimes took place on school grounds.

If convicted of the charge, a Class D felony, Fightmaster could be sentenced to up to five years in prison.

Fightmaster is a Jefferson County resident, but police tell us the warrant originated in Bardstown because he allegedly was chatting with a state police detective there who was posing as a minor.

Police haven't yet said how old Fightmaster thought the detective was.

After learning that Fightmaster had been arrested, Lisa Brosky, Director of Marketing and Communications at JCTC, released the following statement:

Chad Fightmaster teaches Aviation Technology for Jefferson Community & Technical College. The program is housed at the Academy @ Shawnee.

Jefferson Community & Technical College takes these charges very seriously and we are attempting to get more details. We understand that the charges do not involve any activity at the school or college. Even so, because the safety and security of our students is of utmost concern, the instructor has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the police investigation.  Arrangements have been made to cover his classes and ensure instruction continues uninterrupted.
