LAMAR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) – Ice on the road is to blame for a fatal 2 car crash in Lamar County that killed an East Texas woman.

It happened around 10:20 Wednesday morning on Hwy 271 near Deport, between Mt. Pleasant and Paris.

According to officials, one vehicle slid into oncoming traffic, hitting an 18-wheeler.

Martha Lockwood, 45 of Omaha, was seriously injured.

Glenda Terrell, 54, of Cookville, was killed in the accident.

Troopers say the weather definitely played a part in this accident, but the revelation that two health care works were injured, one of them dying, sent shock waves through one East Texas Hospital.

As word came of the crash on the icy highway, workers at Titus Regional Medical Center were shocked to hear that Glenda Terrell had been killed.

Terrell had been at one time a nurse at the hospital and had been well known and well liked by staff and friends. She was currently employeed by a State Health Agency.

"She went to nursing school because she really wanted to take care of people, so yes, it will be a loss to the community," says friend Dorothy Brightwell.

"Whenever you devote your entire life to helping others during sickness or during trauma, or tragedy, and to lose your life in that very same manner, it's always hard to hear," said another friend of Terrell's, Shannon Norfleet.

Martha Lockwood is still in a Paris hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured.
