Roads are messy in Sulphur Springs

SULPHUR SPRINGS, TX (KLTV) – I spent part of the day in Sulphur Springs and got a unique perspective from the first responders to all of those wrecks, road problems, and chaos that comes with this winter weather.

I got to ride along with Officer Brian Shurtleff of the Sulphur Springs Police Department.

Pretty much, the entire city was hit hard by this latest storm.

"About ten this morning, the sleet that we had starting turning into snow, and at that point, things started to really ice over," said Shurtleff.

Shurtleff says around noon on Wednesday, officers were responding to call after call, on city streets and on the interstate.

We even dropped by a truck stop where several big rigs just shut it down all together until the roads got better and they were cleared to drive.

Thankfully, by the time we got to Sulphur Springs, things had calmed down a bit, until we got a call about a pretty messy wreck out on I-30.

"Hoping that people in the public drive safe and watch their speed, just because it says you can go 70 miles an hour, doesn't mean you need to be driving 70 miles an hour," Shurtleff explained.

Roads are still very icy throughout the area, including the interstate.
