SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - On two East Texas bridges, crews worked a total of nine accidents today. The bridges are on highway 155 between Coffee City and Dogwood in Smith County. DPS crews were out all day putting sand on both bridges today, but they say the roads are still pretty slick. Troopers are also currently sitting close by the bridges in case of an emergency.

"We strategically placed the police and fire department lined up all along the corners of the bridges, anticipating in case if something happens," says the Mayor of Coffee City, Tony Moore.

With the mix of rain and cold temperatures, it doesn't surprise Patrol officers the number of accidents that have already occurred.

"With the rain this morning and then temperatures falling, it just turned liquid into ice, which made it very hazardous for drivers out here," says Chris Draffkorn, a Coffee City Patrol Officer.

The police officers say they plan to be out by the bridge until nightfall in case of any more emergencies. Fortunately, there have been no major injuries.

They urge drivers to be careful and to drive slow, especially on a bridge.
