Tyler PD searching for student with gun near Robert E. Lee campus

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - TISD campus police are searching for a student near Robert E. Lee, who had  a gun on campus.

Both Robert E. Lee, and Hubbard Middle School campuses were locked down around 2 p.m. on Tuesday for approximately 45 minutes.

The Principal of Robert E. Lee, Roger McAdoo says that no students, staff or faculty have been injured.

TISD made the following tweet about 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday:

Robert E. Lee HS no longer under lock down. Students safe. Identity of student who fled school is known.

According to TISD officials, a student accused of theft was approached by campus officers when the student dropped his backpack and fled the campus.

The gun was found in the backpack.

Initially, Tyler Police were involved in the search, but turned the search over to TISD campus police.
