EDOM, TX - The fun and festivity of an old-fashioned street fair returns to this tiny town in East Texas . "April in Edom" fills the main street of Downtown Edom on April 16 and 17 and it is free!
The festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday on FM 279, the main thoroughfare through town. Motorcycles and fire trucks join in the fun and a classic car show spices up Saturday night. Vendors from all over Texas sell arts and crafts and a variety of handmade items. There is a real-deal blacksmith and a glass blower doing demonstrations. Food carts offer typical fair food including hot dogs, turkey legs, fried Twinkies and sno-cones.
A favorite event, the Pet Parade, starts at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Any type of pet and its owner is invited to participate in the entertaining event, where everyone is a winner. Prizes for pet/owner look-alikes, tricks, and best of show are sure to be a hit. Last year, a chicken won the event!
Music to lighten you spirit will include gospel, bluegrass and country playing throughout the weekend and even at night during the classic car show.
A live auction also gets underway Saturday afternoon. And don't forget the opening parade with the school bands and cheerleaders on Sat. morning at 10 AM!
A children's play area, complete with pony rides, a choo-choo train and a bounce house, ensures that everyone in the family has a fun-filled adventure.
Some of the local artist studios, the antique shop and the famous restaurant featuring "the best chicken fried steak in Texas" will be open during the fair.
Edom is located at the intersection of FM 279 and Hwy 314, halfway between Canton and Tyler. Hours are 10 to 5 on Saturday and Sunday, April 16 and 17.
