Longview house fire ruled arson

By Bob Hallmark - bio | email

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- A home went up in flames early Sunday morning, and now investigators say it was arson. Around 2:30 AM, firefighters were called to the home in the 700-block of Travis Avenue.

"Firefighters arrived to find the front porch on fire and going up into the eaves and attic area of this residence," says Longview Fire Marshal Johnny Zachary.

Fire crews arrived quickly and were able to douse the flames before the home was lost, and investigators quickly found what happened.

"This was intentionally set using some kind of ignitable liquid, and it was placed near the front door, the persons could have been trapped in the house from exiting the building," says Zachary.

Its unclear who was home , if anyone, at the time, no neighbors saw or heard anything. Even the 9-1-1 call was anonymously made.

"Any fire at the exit way of a structure is very concerning," Zachary says.

It was two years ago, the so-called south side arsonist torched numerous residential and abandoned buildings, sparking fears that the fire-bug might be back. But investigators don't think so.

"At this time we don't believe this is associated with any other fire, we will investigate it and see if there is any leads," Zachary says.

No one was hurt in the blaze, and the investigation goes on. About 50 percent of the home was damaged in the fire. Anyone with any information on the case is asked to call Gregg County crime-stoppers.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>
