Weather advisories in effect; driving conditions poor

By Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto

The winter storm that was forecast earlier in the week certainly came be last night and today.

Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are still in effect for portions of East Texas, but most of these will be canceled late this afternoon or early this evening as the storm system moves out of North and East Texas, taking with it all of the wintry precipitation.

Travel conditions are poor at best across a good portion of East Texas and motorists are being asked to take it very slowly--or even stay off of the roads until the snow and ice melts away.

Snowfall totals across East Texas range anywhere from a dusting in a few locations to upwards of 8.00". A 2" – 4" snowfall average seems to be the norm over most of the area with much higher totals northern sections.

Ice remains a problem over the southern and southeastern sections of East Texas making driving nearly impossible. We will continue to keep you posted on the weather throughout the day today and tomorrow until we get back to a state of ‘Normal' which may take a little while.
