East Texans Cope With Triple Digit Temps

Temperatures in Tyler/Longview reached the triple digits two days in a row this week, leaving East Texans searching for anything cold.

In the last days of summer, Marble Slab Creamery in Tyler is at its peak season.

"The heat index has hit at least 103, so business has been really booming," says Cody Pottkotter with Marble Slab.

Rachel Carnes ventured into the brightly-lit shop Thursday afternoon for a pick-me up snack.

"On a day like this, it's the only thing I want to eat," she says.

Others trying to escape the heat ended up at their local swimming pool. Dozens of swimmers crowded into the pool at Tyler Tennis and Swim Thursday night.

"Tons of moms and kids came out," says Christie Daugherty. "The kids are just going crazy in the house. They're ready to get out, and it's too hot to do anything else."

Temperatures reached 100 in Tyler/Longview Thursday. Meanwhile, the heat index fluctuated between 105 and 106.

Despite the small hot spell, temperatures are expected to drop over the weekend.
