LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- A Longview family is without a home today, after fire gutted their house. It happened just before 6 PM yesterday at a home in the 900 block of Pecan street. Flames soon turned the old wood frame home into a tinderbox, engulfing it within minutes.

"Extremely old home no insulation in the walls, had cheesecloth for wallpaper," said Longview Fire Marshal Johnny Zachary.

The mother and her 3 children were not home when the blaze broke out, and it probably saved their lives.

"They did not have smoke alarms in the home, had they been in here , there's a chance they might not have gotten out , the smoke would have overcome them," said Zachary.

Now the family is trying to rally around the mother and kids, to give them strength, after losing everything.

"She don't have nowhere to stay right now and that's very hard when a person loses something and they don't have nowhere to go," said the victim's mother Patricia Taylor. "I know how it is because I've been there."

Taylor lost everything she had in a fire two decades ago.

"It's been a long time, twenty years, that's the hardest part," said Taylor. "When you lose everything in the house, we'll have to keep that spirit up because I know how it is."

Taylor's daughter had only lived here since October. "I just thank God nobody got hurt in this," Taylor said.

The family is being assisted by the area red cross. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
