TYLER, TX (KLTV) - It's a bit early to be talking baseball, but East Texas team is already getting state wide attention. The Tyler Lee Red Raiders are Class 5A's no. 3 ranked team in Texas, by the High School Baseball Coaches Association.
It was a bit of a surprise for Lee baseball players. It's also pretty cool. Friday was the first day of practice. The Red Raiders hope to live up to the high ranking.
"It's definitely an honor being number three already preseason," said Tyler Lee pitcher Blake Smith. "We haven't played a game yet but it's definitely an honor being mentioned up there with the best."
The Red Raiders says they still have a lot to prove.
"It's flattering," said Tyler Lee pitcher Matt Lynch. "We had a good team last year and come back with some of our important players. But we haven't played yet and we don't know how good we are until we play somebody else."
