East Texans outraged over murder mistrial

WINNSBORO, TX (KLTV) - A mistrial in a nearly 2-year old East Texas murder case is stirring emotions in one town.

On Friday, a mistrial was declared in the case of Ty Evans, who is accused of fatally shooting 24-year old Anna Moore in Winnsboro back in May of 2009.

David Powell, who was sitting next to Anna the night she was killed in a drive-by shooting, says he does not understand why there was a mistrial, adding that he also does not understand why he was not called to testify.

Powell said, "There were other people, other than myself, who are family who were never called to the stand, and in my eyes, that's the key people."

"It sends a bad message to the surrounding areas, as well as this community, that murders cannot be solved here, said family friend, Keith Meyers.

Winnsboro Police say prosecutors are planning to re-try Ty Evans, though right now, a trial date has not been set. Evans remains in custody at the Wood County Jail.
